WHY

The children that the foster care system serves range from newborn to 18 years old. We aim to serve the supply needs of each child in this broad range.

The most in demand items are socks, pajamas, and undergarments. For those children older than 14, we hope to purchase gift cards to stores such as Target and Kohl's to allow them to purchase for their own unique style and size needs.

5411 children are in the Virginia foster care system as of January 1st, 2021. Locally, 77 new children entered the Piedmont CASA system this year.

The average age of foster care children in the US is 8. In Virginia, children stay with a foster family on average for 21 months. This time frame demonstrates how crucial it is to support new foster families with the materials they need to take care of children.
